PREGNANCY & BIRTH

Prenatal Care
If we decide it’s a good fit to work together for your pregnancy, birth and postpartum we will schedule your initial
visit where we do a complete health history, physical exam and make sure you are a good candidate for a homebirth. From there we have prenatal visits every month until you are 28 weeks, then every two weeks from 28 weeks to 36 weeks, and weekly or as needed from 36 weeks to the birth of your baby. Each visit lasts about an hour (the initial visit may take up to 2 hours). We assess the wellbeing of you and your baby, as well as build a relationship around education and shared decision making, while getting to know your family.
Most appointments will be in my home office in Haiku. I offer one prenatal home visit around 36 weeks with your birth team.
Labs and tests I offer routinely during prenatal visits:

Initial prenatal package blood work (CBC, blood type, antibody screen, HIV, rubella, syphilis, Hepatitis), Pap smear, chlamydia and gonorrhea, and genetic screening

28 weeks: CBC and follow-up antibody screen for Rh-women, Gestational Diabetes Screen

36 weeks: CBC, Group-B Strep culture

We can refer you for ultrasounds, and more extensive genetic screening
Birth
I am on call for you from weeks 37-42 for your birth at home. We will do labor checks as labor progresses and stay with you when you are in active labor, through the birth and for 2-4 hours after you are “stable”, and you are comfortable. After the birth we do a newborn exam and help with breastfeeding. We offer Vitamin K and Erythromycin eye ointment for your baby if you so choose, check your bottom for need for repairs and repair if needed.
In the event that you have your baby outside the window of 37-42 weeks, or if we transfer for any other reason, one of us will accompany you in the hospital and act as a support person through the birth of your baby.

Insurance Coverage:
Unfortunately we are unable to bill Medicaid. We are always out of network with private insurance and can only bill if you have "out-of-network maternity coverage." If you choose to bill insurance your fee is still due by 34 weeks.
I work with an insurance billing company and you can verify your benefits with them and see how much they would cover if any.
POSTPARTUM CARE
I will come to your home at 1 day, 3 days, and 1 week postpartum. After your 1 week appointment you and your baby will come to the office at 2 weeks (this can be done at home if desired), 4 weeks and 6 weeks postpartum. If additional care is needed we will address this as appropriate.

HYBRID
HOME /HOSPITAL CARE
Baby Feeding Support
Hybrid Care is a great option for people who have a high-risk pregnancy or who otherwise ultimately feel most comfortable birthing in a hospital. This integrative model allows you to be held within the midwifery model of care while receiving concurrent care from your hospital provider.
Do you need help integrating the new skill of feeding your baby? I can help with slow weight gain, painful latch, pumping and bottle feeding and more. We care for the baby-parent dyad and give time for more than just lactation support in this visit. Our midwives give heart-centered lactation and baby-feeding support that allows for the process of learning to feed your baby to unfold and blossom.
$200 for initial consult (in home if within first 2 weeks postpartum)
$125 for follow-up
IUI / preconception
IUI is a safe and simple procedure, and having a midwife come to your home to perform the IUI makes all the sense in the world: you are more relaxed and comfortable in your own space, the environment is less clinical, your partner (if applicable) can be involved in the process, and your physical and emotional comfort held paramount!
Preconception appointments are about an hour and can involve initial blood work and testing. We discuss lifestyle, supplements and create a plan for you.
$200 Health history & fertility intake (required for at home IUI’s)
$300 per home IUI / $250 for 2nd in same cycle
